Therapeutic Laser Therapy for Pets in Beacon

Veterinary laser therapy is a pain-free and drug-free therapeutic treatment that uses a low-intensity laser or light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to help relieve pain, stimulate and enhance cell function, and improve healing.

Laser therapy is non-surgical and can be performed in conjunction with other treatments. If your cat or dog has sustained an injury, undergone surgery, or suffers from painful joint conditions associated with aging, they may be a candidate for veterinary laser therapy.

How Cold Laser Therapy Works

Therapeutic lasers create a focused light that stimulates the tissue at and below the surface of your pet’s skin. The biochemical effect that the light produces promotes cellular energy and regeneration, resulting in enhanced tissue repair, better circulation and pain relief.

This technique is called 'cold' laser therapy because the low light levels used aren’t strong enough to heat the bodily tissues. On the other hand, surgical lasers, such as those used to destroy tumors or coagulate tissue, actually heat the tissue being treated.

What Cold Laser Therapy Does

Therapeutic cold laser therapy can be used to:

  • Speed wound healing
  • Accelerate mitochondrial cell metabolism
  • Reduce inflammation and associated pain
  • Enhance neovascularization
  • Increase blood perfusion
  • Reduce edema (swelling)
  • Encourage bone healing

Related Conditions & Procedures

Cold laser therapy encourages cell regeneration and increases circulation, benefitting the following conditions and procedures:

  • Wounds
  • Strains & Sprains
  • Degenerative Joint Disease
  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease
  • Skin & Ear Infections
  • Fractured Bones
  • Inflammation
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Lick Granuloma
  • Dental Procedures
  • Post-Surgical Recovery
  • ...and many more

The Procedure

Before the initial treatment begins, your dog or cat will be given a full physical exam. X-rays may also be helpful for precise targeting of your pet's laser treatment.

The laser wand will be gently maneuvered over the problem area that needs to be treated. A typical session will usually last between 5 and 20 minutes, and most pets seem to find the process relaxing and pleasant.
